Questions and answers

The things people ask most. If your question isn't here, just ask.

What is Spiritlands Online?

A 2D top-down RPG where you find, catch and raise spirits across the five landscapes of Tamil Sangam poetry. It has turn-based battles, a party of six, a day-and-night clock and a story about memory and family.

Where do the five lands come from?

From Sangam poetry. The old Tamil poets named five kinds of landscape, the tinai: mountains, forest, river farmland, seashore and dry land. The game used to be called Ainthu Nilam ("five lands"), and for a few days Tinai. See the Five Lands.

When does it come out?

There's no release date yet. The game is being built one land at a time. Sign up for news below and you'll get one short email when there's something real to show.

What can I play it on?

Windows first. An Android version is planned. Other platforms aren't decided yet.

How much will it cost?

The price hasn't been decided yet. It will be announced well before release.

Which languages does it support?

English. The people keep their Tamil names, and the world is drawn from Tamil landscapes and Sangam poetry.

Is this a Pokémon game?

No. It's an original game made by an independent developer. It belongs to the same family of creature-catching RPGs, but its world, story and every one of its spirits are its own.

How do you catch spirits?

Nothing is thrown. In battle you choose Seal, and your device casts a ring of light-blue light round the weakened wild spirit. It pulses until the spirit joins you or breaks free. Seal Charges are what you use up, and Grandma gives you more.

How many spirits are there?

122 so far, across 11 types, including Song, a type of our own. Browse them all.

Who is making it?

Vignesh, an independent developer, in the Godot engine.

How is the art made?

The art is generated with AI image tools under Vignesh's direction, then fitted into the game by hand. The credits page says more.

Do I need an account?

Only for the wishlist. An account keeps your email, display name and wishlist choice, nothing more, and you can ask us to delete it any time. See what we keep.
